Cheese-Filled Chikuwa Nori Teriyaki

Cheese-filled fish cakes are glazed with soy sauce and wrapped with nori.

Ingredients

  • 4 chikuwa fish cakes
  • 40 g firm melting cheese, cut into sticks
  • 1/2 nori sheet, cut into strips
  • 1 teaspoon neutral oil
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon mirin
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon water

Tools Used

Fry pan, knife, cutting board, and tongs.

Steps

  1. Push cheese sticks into the holes of the chikuwa. Cut each into two pieces and wrap the middle with a nori strip.
  2. Mix soy sauce, mirin, sugar, and water.
  3. Warm oil in a fry pan over medium-low heat. Turn the chikuwa for 2-3 minutes until hot.
  4. Add sauce and simmer for 1-2 minutes, turning gently, until glossy and the cheese softens.

Serving Notes

Serve hot, while the nori is fragrant and the cheese is soft.
